With over 12 years styling clients,
I have found that colour is a powerful tool! It can enhance our mood,
ameliorate the aesthetic of a space and stimulate our senses.
Shades of pink can induce feelings
of positivity, blue is naturally calming, while yellows and oranges boost
happiness and cheerfulness.
With the UK spending more time
indoors, wearing colour is a great way to infuse some FUN and much needed JOY
whilst working from home.
So, what does wearing your best
colours do for you?
“How do I dress for my body shape?” This is one of the most frequently asked questions I get as a Personal Stylist. And rightfully so, as dressing our body is one of the ways we express our style and personality.
We all come in different shapes
and sizes; some are pear shaped, others athletic; some are top heavy and others
more hourglass; some have short torsos, others have long legs.
Understanding a client’s body
shape is an important stylist tool in curating a personalised
and fabulous wardrobe. It is all about
using clothes to create a proportioned silhouette to achieve the most
flattering fit.
Are you tired of wearing only 20% of your wardrobe all the time?
Do you feel exasperated while shopping, because of the endless
choices?
Are unsure of which styles to choose that it and flatter you best?
Do you need some inspiration of what to wear while working from
home this summer?
If you relate to these
frustrations, then knowing and understanding your body shape will essentially
help you to:
Choose well – Shopping
will become easier once you learn what styles are the most appropriate for your
figure. You’ll be able to walk into a store (or shop online) and focus on the
items that flatter your shape and complement your lifestyle.
Save time & money – Imagine how much time and money you’ll save as you become less
overwhelmed with changing trends and fads that may be inappropriate for your
body shape.
Increase confidence
– You’ll exude more confidence in your clothes based on the fact that you know
what cuts and styles accentuate your best features.
So how can you work out what body shape you
are?
Good news!
We are offering our online Body Shape consultation for just £49, delivered to you virtually in the comfort of your home or office.
You can fit our 30-minute Bodyshape session in
at lunchtime, after work or anytime that suits your ‘working from home’
schedule.
The one thing I’ve been asked most during this lock-down, is how to declutter your wardrobe while #stayingathome. Now’s a great time to show your wardrobe some TLC by detoxing it.
Without further ado, here are my top tips of how to efficiently declutter your wardrobe:
Bring out all your Spring/Summer clothes, shoes and accessories.
You’re going to need to be objective and
very decisive when reviewing your wardrobe.
Ask yourself a few questions:
Do you like the item of clothing, shoes,
accessories? Does it fit and flatter you? If the clothes are more than 1 size
too big or small, please release them. (Holding onto clothes that don’t fit
you, does nothing for your self-esteem)

positive: mind, soul and body
Most
of us are working from home, except our medical heroes & frontline staff serving

wear bright beautiful colours! Colour is proven to lift our mood and make us

Comfort is king– Wear soft breathable
fabrics like wool, organic cotton, etc. that will keep you comfortable all day
long! Avoid leather, polyester or any synthetic fabrics.
A set of co-ord loungewear is ideal for many of us attending virtual meetings. They are easy to wear, stylish and comfortable, so bag yourself a knitted co-ord set or beautiful matching pyjamas-style set.
Due to social distancing guidelines, I will be working remotely

As
a person who likes to be in the know about all things fashion related, I set out
on a mission to understand sustainability, its effect on our planet and if
fashion can be sustainable…..
After
months of research and attending Fashion Sustainability events, my answer is a
resounding YES!
Here are 4 easy ways to be sustainable with your style:
Recycle
The truth is at times we get bored of our clothes, they
don’t fit or our lifestyle has changed. When we detox wardrobes,
we seldom throw clothes away, as they tend to end up in landfills or
incinerated which leads to more emissions.
Find a charity you can support to donate your unwanted
clothes to. We support a women’s refuge and charity, where we take your
unwanted clothes when you book a wardrobe consultation with us.
Check out SmartWorks charity, who dress unemployed women for job interviews with donated clothes.
2. Re-wear
I am passionate about encouraging my clients to invest in timeless
pieces they can wear for at least 5 years. Although the initial cost is higher,
it evens out because it decreases the cost per wear. So, you get more wear out
of your clothes and they won’t fall apart because the quality is good. Avoid
following fast fashion, because they date quickly and you can’t wear them for
more than one or two seasons at most.
Our Wardrobe Management service is a consultation where we demonstrate how to maximise
your wardrobe. We create 3-5 looks from each piece of clothing, take pictures; so,
you have a catalogue of looks ready to wear numerous ways – for all occasions.
Steer clear of buying clothes you can only wear once or one
way.
Hands up if you have clothes in your wardrobe you haven’t
worn that still have the labels on?!
When we Manage and Detox Wardrobes, we see so many unworn
new clothes in your wardrobes. If the return date has expired; re-gift it. Give
them to your friends and family you know will like it and wear it They make
great gifts; which saves you money and space in your bulging wardrobe.
A Fun idea is to host a clothes swap party with your girlfriends, where you all swap your clothes. Great for the planet and changing up your style!
4. Research
Thankfully clothing brands are becoming more sustainability
conscious and seeking ways to reduce their carbon footprint.
Keep your ‘ear to the ground’ for brands who
make their clothes ethically and are intentional about making their supply
chain more sustainable.
I do my best to incorporate sustainable fashion
personally and when selecting pieces for Personal Shopping and online clients.

Yves
Saint Laurent said it best: “Fashion fades, style is eternal!”
With that in mind, I have some practical style tips that will help you confidently create a timeless style that lasts a decade:
10 years in Style!
Embrace your Uniqueness.
You are unique; that is your power!
We live in a social media age where everyone is trying to
look the same, but true beauty is being authentically you. Our quirks make us
interesting. How boring would it be if we all looked the same? Accept yourself
‘flaws and all’ because perfection is a myth. Bin comparison this decade and
remember; the beauty of YOU is that no one is like you; so, embrace YOU.
The Power of Colour
Wearing colour not only lifts your mood, it adds a
beautiful natural glow to your face. Steer clear of wearing dark dreary hues that
drain the colour from your face. There is a rainbow of beautiful colours that
will brighten and lift your face naturally. This decade wear more colour! I
promise you will look and feel better.

Body Beautiful
With the rise in cosmetic surgery and body ’enhancements’, there
is no better time to swim against the tide and love the skin we are in. Whether
you are a size 8 or 18, tall, petite, athletic, pear shaped, or curvy, you are
beautiful! I have styled over three thousand people in over 12 years as a personal
stylist and I am yet to meet a client I can’t style and help set on a journey
of body confidence. Dressing confidently is about understanding your bodyshape
and styling it in clothes that flatter and accentuate your shape. Truth is, none of us will be how we were 20,
30 years ago or like celebrities who have assistance at their disposal. Accept
and love your body as you are now. I hope the next time you look in the mirror you
see how truly and uniquely beautiful you are.
Release!
Marie Kondo – tidying expert and author – encourages us to
let go of anything that doesn’t spark joy. I’d like to add to that list: Let go
of anything you haven’t worn in two years. Let go of anything that doesn’t fit
or flatter you. Release clothes, shoes and accessories that no longer serve a
purpose in your current lifestyle. That dress you wore when you were two sizes
smaller does nothing for your confidence, so let it go! Let go of the past and
embrace who you are today. We hold on to so much stuff that clutters our
wardrobe taking up precious space, release them. Our body is the only house we live in permanently.
It’s so important you clothe yourself in pieces that serve you and lift your spirit.
Let go and release anything that doesn’t. Less is truly more!
(To have your wardrobe decluttered, book a Wardrobe Detox consultation today)
Invest.
True style is timeless. Invest in quality pieces you can
wear for at least 5 to 10 years. Durable pieces you can wear again and again
that don’t date or fall apart.
Timeless pieces are kinder to the environment, because when
you buy well, you buy less; which increases the cost per wear.
Avoid fast fashion, its disposable and the quality and
manufacturing isn’t kind.
This decade I encourage you to; Invest in yourself – Invest in your style.
