Fashion versus Style!

As a Personal Stylist, I am an avid believer that style trumps fashion.  And so with London Fashion week 2019 in full swing, I’d love to shed some light on the differences between fashion and style.

  • Fashion is fleeting. Style is timeless.
  • Fashion says wear what’s on trend (even if it doesn’t suit you). Style says wear what flatters you.
  • Fashion says follow what everyone is wearing. Style says be unique and wear what suits your lifestyle and personality.
  • Fashion says buy it all! Style says be selective, create a capsule wardrobe of clothes you can wear numerous ways.
  • Fashion says wear it for a season. Style says wear it for years!
  • Fashion says wear this seasons colour. Style says find out your best colours and wear them.
  • Fashion says wear those uncomfortable shoes. Style says comfort is king!
  • Fashion says wear it even if it’s not you. Style says wear what makes you happy.

Fashion certainly has its place…..but for a timeless, flattering wardrobe of clothes that suit you; style always wins!

BBC…3R’s

Hello, I hope this year has started off well for you.
I had the honour of being invited to the BBC to share my nuggets on how to improve our style this year….
How we dress matters, it not only affects how we feel about ourselves but how we are perceived. Stats tell us that first impressions are made within 4 seconds of meeting a person.
For a winning style personally or professionally, here are my 3 R’s to improving your style this year:
Review. Release. Restyle.

Review!
Most of us are “creatures” of habit, we tend to wear the same looks year in year out. We aren’t aware of what suits us, so we are inclined to stay within our comfort-zone.
Our trained personal stylist will empower you with skills for life by Reviewing your colours and bodyshape. We will equip you with how to wear colours that give your skin a natural youthful glow. We also teach you clothing styles that best flatter and complement your bodyshape and proportions.

Step out of your comfort zone and let us Review what complements you best with

Release!
In nearly 11 years of styling clients and decluttering thousands of wardrobes, I’ve only seen 2 client wardrobes that weren’t overflowing with clothes. And ironically most of us only wear only 20% of our bulging wardrobes….
Are you hanging onto all those clothes for nostalgic reasons? Clothes that no longer fit or flatter you? Or perhaps they are dated or ill-fitting?
We will help you Release clothes in your wardrobe that don’t make you look or feel good.
Clear your space by booking a Wardrobe detox consultation and we will help you embrace a flattering capsule wardrobe this year:
Restyle!
Majority of us tend to wear clothing styles we are familiar with day in day out, which leaves little room for inspiration. Our personal stylists  Restyle you by exploring and injecting something different into your wardrobe this year.
We save you time, stress and ensure you don’t waste money on clothes that do nothing to uplift you.

Try someone NEW! Restyle and make a great impression this year by booking some  Personal Shopping with us this season.

How to make the most of your Autumn/Winter 2018 wardrobe.

Checked blazers, animal print, the colour green and brown are synonymous with this season’s trend. I am passionate about having you ready for the season effortlessly. Before you start to dump all your clothes in an unorderly fashion, make use of this review site and get some hardwood wardrobes where you can hang your clothes. Here are a few wardrobe tips, so you are super stylish this Autumn/Winter:

1, Create space to see your autumn winter clothes. Pack away all your spring/summer clothes. Store away your out of season clothes in a spare wardrobe, your suit case, under your bed, in your loft or on top of your wardrobe.

2, Go through your clothes and give away anything that doesn’t make you feel or look good. Especially clothes that are too small, too big or dated. They do nothing for your self-esteem and we’re all about style and confidence.

3, Lay out the Autumn/Winter clothes you have and create various looks with them for work, rest and play. Take pictures of the looks, so you are ready for all occasions.

4, Write a list of any gaps you have in your wardrobe. Your warm winter essentials, anything worn out that’s need replacing or is dated. Have you treated yourself to a winter new hat, scarf or gloves in your favourite colour? It makes all the difference and brightens up the dullest winter day. Remember to also include a treat or two from this season’s trends to update and jazz up your wardrobe this season.

*If that all sounds too daunting, our London College of Fashion trained wardrobe stylists are waiting to help you Declutter/Detox and Manage your wardrobe with minimal effort from you. So you have your dream capsule wardrobe this Autumn/Winter.

Your Spring/Summer 2018 Style guide

Seems we’ve had the longest coldest winter ever, I’m sure we all can’t wait to ditch our woollies and swap them for some colourful lighter pieces.
With Spring on the horizon, here are trends to look out for this Spring/Summer 2018:
• Pastels! From lilac to baby pinks, this season is all about pastels. Soft tones that look effortlessly beautiful in the sunshine.

• Sparkles! Sequin and all things sparkly are not just for the festive party season, they have followed on to Spring/Summer day wear; so you will be sparking all year round.

• Polka dots are back! If you didn’t have enough of them in the 80’s, they are back with a vengeance. Thankfully designers have made design variations to the traditional polka dot, so look out for them.

• Bold colours. Red has followed on Autumn/Winter to Spring/Summer. For a bold, sassy and confident look; you can’t go wrong in red.

• Plastic! They say fashion repeats itself and this is true of PVC. For the brave fashion lover, PVC is a necessary addition to your wardrobe this spring/summer.

*To revamp your style for work, casually or socially, our trained personal stylists are ready to book you in for a fun half or full day Personal Shopping this season.
Or perhaps you may just want a few pieces to update your Spring/Summer wardrobe, our online personal shopper is waiting to assist you virtually; so you put your best foot forward this Spring/Summer 2018.

10 lessons in 10 years of Business:

10 years ago in trepidation, on the 13th floor in my work office, I packed up my box to leave city working life to embark on the world of business and birth Potential U.
Here are a few lessons I’ve learnt along the way:

1. Network network network! The road to your own business can be very lonely. I remember in my 2nd week of business, I secured my first radio interview and none of my family or friends listened; I was distraught. With all my friends in 9-5 jobs, I realised I needed to be proactive, so I made a conscious effort to network with women who also ran businesses. I’ve made many business associates and some great friends along the way.

2. Be current. When I started out in business 10 years ago, Pinterest and Instagram didn’t exist. Technology and social media has evolved so much; it’s important to stay one step ahead of the game! I sought the advice of my mentee (who is a social media influencer), to update my social media skills. Stay current, be adaptable and keep on learning!

3. Passion pays! I am just as passionate about my business today as I was when I first started 10 years ago. I thoroughly enjoying helping my clients feel confident in their skin. Find your passion and make it work! Life is too precious to stay in mundane unfulfilling jobs. One of the most poignant words I heard at a business event was: ‘Have one foot in your dreams and one in reality’. So we really put an effort in organize this business events and parties, and we even get services as  popevents party rentals, to get the best equipment and preparation for these events.

4. Be authentic. We are best at being ourselves, so be you. People buy people, so connect from your heart, but use your head too . Remember your valves and don’t lose them in this microwave world. I hold my values and beliefs very dear. I have managed to remain true to them despite numerous temptations and the fluid demands of the fashion/business world…..

5. Tenacity and perseverance! I’ve learnt that the road of business isn’t always smooth, it’s dotted with many highs and lows. As I have navigated this road, I’ve learnt to enjoy the highs, stand during the lows; knowing that they don’t last long. Business is indicative of life, so you need perseverance and copious amounts of tenacity.

6. Rest and relaxation! Coming from a 13year city career as an accountant, these words were foreign to me. I worked crazy hours in the city and continued like this when I started my business. I was determined to work hard and make it work. I remember going to my good friend’s wedding in the Caribbean in my first year of business, where I spent most of my time on the beach with my mobile checking my business emails and not enjoying the holiday at all. After running myself down and suffering from exhaustion, I have learnt to rest, use my out of office and work smarter. Now when I go on holiday, my mobile is the hotel safe, while I top up my vitamin D on the beach 

7. Ask for help and support. Still trying to master this one. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength and realising you can’t do it alone. Your friends, family, network of associates make up a village that help to nurture and grow your business.

8. Know your strengths and weaknesses. When you start out in business (irrespective of the industry) you will be everything: The accountant, salesperson, administrator, marketing and PR, etc. As you grow in business, learn your strengths and weaknesses, and delegate other roles to the experts. The perfectionist in me is still learning to let go 🙂

9. Serve your customers. Treat them with care, listen to their feedback, nurture your relationship with them and ultimately; serve them. Stats say that its easier to gain repeat business from your current clients, than to attract new clients. I never close off a job until I’ve heard my client’s feedback. It enables me to grow and make any necessary changes.

10. Be thankful! It’s a privilege to do a job I love and for 10 years. I’ve seen many people start in business who aren’t here today. I have met and styled thousands of clients over the years. I am invited into their homes to manage/detox their wardrobes (which is pretty intimate if you ask me). They trust me to take them shopping and to revamp their image. I am sought to deliver corporate presentations and style masterclasses. My advice is called upon by the media and fashion houses. If we look around us, there are many reasons to be thankful and I am exceedingly grateful for 10 years in business. Thank you!
